Pretty easy to make since the shape is so basic.

Notes
-I left the shell and legs rough on purpose to make them more rock-like. The black belly and eyes are smooth.

-I made it in steps, first the belly, then the shell, then the legs and eyes (baking and sanding the clay between each step). It's annoying but at least I only have to wait 15 minutes since the Sculpey is thin around the aluminum foil ball.

-Very lightweight figure thanks to the aluminum foil core.

-Kabuto is a little over an inch long, meaning it's in-scale with 6-inch figures (roughly, 1 inch = 1 foot).

-I sculpted the shell so that Kabuto can "stand" completely on the lower lip and also rest on the two rear legs so it looks like it's being cute looking up at you asking for a snack when all it really wants to do is eat your brains.

-Check-out the work-in-progress pics in my gallery!

-Also check-out the 6-inch posable Kabutops I'm working on!

FFFF Kabuto you so adorable

Too bad I never use Rock or Bug types =(

Seriously though this thing is too cute. I don't care if all it wants to do is eat my brains.

He's so cute! Love the effect on the eyes.

BTW I think it's a clever idea to use aluminum foil core, I have never thought about that before!

It's pretty much what every sculptor does, the foil bulks up the sculpture too so they waste a lot less clay.

Just make sure to squish the foil tightly! If you leave large airpockets in it, when you put clay on top and bake it, that hot air will want to burst out and rip through the clay x_X
